| PLANNING & ZONING
The Department of Planning and Zoning is responsible for preparing
and maintaining the City’s comprehensive development plan,
administering and enforcing zoning regulations, and carrying out
local zoning ordinances. Specifically, the department involves the
analysis of a given section of land and determines the limits of
how that land can be developed and utilized according to local regulations.
The Department is proficient in property identification, land surveying,
and legal descriptions. In cooperation with the Engineering, Economic
Development, and Community Development Departments -- the Planning
and Zoning Department reviews all residential, commercial, industrial,
and manufacturing development plans, all zoning and subdivision
plats, and provides long range planning for the City. The Department
coordinates the efforts of the City’s Zoning Board of Appeals
and the Planning Commission. The Planning & Zoning Department
is located on the first floor of City Hall at 1601 Chicago Road,
Chicago Heights, IL 60411.
