| ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
The Department of Economic Development is responsible for the marketing
of the City of Chicago Heights to attract new businesses and provide
additional jobs and opportunities for the local population. This
includes various tax revenues to help enhance City services for
residents and existing businesses.
The Department of Economic Development is responsible for the implementation
of economic development incentives that assist with business retention,
expansion, development, and recruitment. These incentives include
Tax Increment Financing, State of Illinois Enterprise Zone, Cook
County Property Tax Incentives, Cook County Community Development
Block Grant commercial funding opportunities, and much more.
In addition, the City is in direct partnership with the City of
Chicago Heights Leadership Council, regional economic development
agencies, and the State of Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic
Opportunity – these groups provide technical assistance and
business-development incentives as well.
The City of Chicago Heights is a Home-Rule municipality. This status
allows the City to design incentive packages to meet the specific
needs of a developer that adheres to the overall plan for the community.
