COMMUNITY VISIONING SESSION FOR BLOOM PLAZA THIS TUESDAY, JULY 10, 2012 @ 7:00 PM
CITY HALL COUNCIL CHAMBERS
The City of Chicago Heights Brownfield Program, coordinated by Mr. David Santori, cordially invites you to share your vision of the development possibilities for the Bloom Plaza property on Tuesday, July 10, 2012, at a Community Visioning Session beginning at 7:00 P.M. in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 1601 Chicago Road.
Facilitators from the University of Illinois at Chicago and Kansas State University will be assisting in the discussion this evening.
The Community Visioning Session hopes to receive input from neighbors, business owners, and property owners to work in moderated groups to explore new visions on how Bloom Plaza should be developed.

EXTREME HEAT ALERT!

The National Weather Service has issued an EXTREME HEAT ADVISORY for the entire Chicagoland area and is predicting the heat index will climb to a dangerous 118-degrees.
This extreme heat warning is issued until Saturday, July 7th at 4:00 P.M. CST. The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) has also issued an Air Pollution Action Day.
An Air Pollution Action Day is declared as a result of the high temperatures and low wind speeds, when air pollution levels, specifically ground-level ozone, are expected to reach the "unhealthy for sensitive groups" category.
This includes individuals with respiratory or pulmonary disorders.
However, even healthy, active children and adults need to be careful and limit physical activity during this timeframe. COOLING CENTERSTherefore, as a pre-caution, the City of Chicago Heights reminds anyone seeking relief from the heat during the day, that the Library, Park District Recreation Center and Police Station are open to the public as Cooling Centers. VEHICLE STICKER REMINDER!

The last day to purchase your new 2012-13 Vehicle Sticker from the Clerk's Office at City Hall -- without additional penalty fees added -- was Monday, July 2nd, during regular business hours: 8:30am to 5:00pm.
Please remember that buying the sticker is just one part of the process. All vehicle stickers must be applied to the inside of your windshield in the lower right-hand corner.
Failure to do so may result in a ticket for non-display.
For your convenience, you can also purchase your City Stickers at the following satellite locations (please note: service fees and late-penalty fees will apply):

Chicago Heights New Owner of Former Ace Hardware Plaza

The City will acquire title to the former Ace Hardware Plaza, 150-190 W. Joe Orr Road, following the City Council's approval on Monday of a deed in lieu of foreclosure agreement.
"By doing this deed in lieu of foreclosure agreement, we will completely wipe out the back taxes that are owed," corporation counsel T.J. Somer said. "We'll be able to take it over and market it."
Somer said the property had gone into foreclosure with a bank and the city had liens on the property for boarding it up and performing maintenance.

Chicago Heights Police Take The "Polar" Plunge for Special Olympics!

Employees from the City of Chicago Heights and the Chicago Heights Police Department once again participated in this year's 2012 Law Enforcement Torch Run Polar Plunge!
This is the third year that officers from the Police Department have participated in the Polar Plunge, which was one of 20 held around the State from February 25th to March 24th, 2012. All proceeds collected by the Polar Plunge participants helped to benefit Special Olympics Illinois athletes. Officers jumped into the icy waters of Manteno Lake in the middle of winter. PRAIRIE STATE COLLEGE ANNOUNCES ELECTRONICS RECYCLING COLLECTION EVENT APRIL 14

As of Jan. 1, it is illegal to dispose of electronic equipment at the curb in Illinois.
On Saturday, April 14, Prairie State College (PSC) is hosting an Electronics Recycling Collection event, where you can bring your outdated electronics to be properly recycled free-of-charge.
The collection will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 P.M. in Parking Lot "C" of the College's main campus, located at 202 South Halsted Street in Chicago Heights.
